Write for us
We welcome pitches that help general readers understand a specific Earth process through a clear question and a well-bounded explanation. Send proposals through the Contact page.
What we welcome
Pitch accessible explanations of landforms, weather, water, deep time or changes across Earth systems. Strong proposals focus on one idea, explain why it is worth understanding and show how the piece will make the process clear without relying on specialist knowledge.
Make the pitch concrete
Include a working title, the central question, a short description of the explanation you would offer and any relevant sources or visuals you expect to use. Tell us where the subject has limits or where careful wording matters. We are especially interested in ideas that remain useful without depending on fresh statistics, first-hand testing or local rules.
A considered approach
Use precise language, define necessary terms and separate observation from interpretation. Avoid claims that make a complex process sound inevitable or universal. A pitch should be your own work and should not assume that a proposal will be accepted or that a response is guaranteed.
Where to send it
Choose the editorial question option on the Contact page and include your proposal in the message. Do not send confidential material. A short, focused pitch is more useful than a full draft unless a draft has been requested.
The planet makes more sense in motion
A river, a cloud and a mountain are not static things. Follow the processes behind them and the larger story comes into view.
